Delhi: Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday described the four new Labour Codes as a landmark achievement of the Modi government, calling them “an outstanding testament” to the trust the Prime Minister has earned across society. Speaking at an event in the capital, Goyal said the reforms demonstrate confidence from both employers and workers, noting that “140 crore Indians have confidence in our PM.”

He emphasised that the Labour Codes consolidate and simplify 29 existing laws into a clearer and more effective framework. According to Goyal, this comprehensive restructuring aims to improve ease of compliance while strengthening employee safeguards. “It is a balanced and well-articulated combination of 29 laws in these four Labour Codes,” he said.

The Minister highlighted key provisions, including mandatory minimum wages, enhanced occupational safety norms, and expanded social security benefits—particularly for gig and platform workers, who have long been outside formal protection systems. He also noted the codes’ potential to expand women’s participation in the workforce by creating safer and more flexible working conditions.
