CHANDIGARH: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, is actively exploring the use of drones to revolutionize healthcare delivery. Dr. Biman Saikia, Professor and Head of the Department of Immunopathology, shared the institute’s innovative approach to leveraging drone technology.
"Drones are already being worked upon for application in delivering medicine to remote areas. We are working on bringing organs to the PGI," Dr. Saikia said, emphasizing the institute's commitment to adopting cutting-edge solutions.
PGI is recognized as a leading center for organ transplants, and the use of drones could significantly enhance the speed and efficiency of organ transport. "If that is done with a drone, that would be very advantageous," Dr. Saikia added, highlighting the potential life-saving benefits of such advancements.
The implementation of drones in healthcare has garnered increasing attention worldwide, especially for critical medical deliveries in challenging terrains and emergencies. PGI’s initiative aligns with global trends and underscores India's strides in integrating technology into healthcare.
The project is still in its developmental stage, but its success could pave the way for broader adoption of drones in medical logistics, potentially saving countless lives and improving the accessibility to healthcare in remote regions.
