New Delhi: Congress leader and party spokesperson Pawan Khera on Monday delivered a sharp rebuttal to BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, questioning his understanding of parliamentary democracy and accusing the BJP of using serious crimes like rape for political mileage.

Responding to Trivedi’s recent comments, Khera said, “Laws passed in Parliament can definitely be overruled by Parliament. If Sudhanshu doesn't understand this basic tenet of democracy, then what is he even doing in Parliament?” He went on to call Trivedi's views “anti-national” and “ignorant,” asserting that such statements reflect a disturbing lack of understanding of India’s constitutional framework.

Khera also addressed the BJP's decision to send a four-member fact-finding team to West Bengal over the alleged gangrape case in Kolkata, questioning the party’s silence on similar incidents in states governed by the BJP.

“Of course, it’s a law and order issue. But these issues reflect larger societal challenges that governments alone cannot solve. We need a collective approach to address them,” he said. “Instead of playing politics by saying rape in Odisha or Maharashtra should be ignored because they’re BJP-ruled, and highlighting Kolkata’s case only for political gain, we should put our heads together to find solutions.”

Khera emphasized the need for consistency in addressing crimes against women across the country and urged all political parties to move away from partisan posturing. “Tragedies like rape should never be used as tools of political scoring. Justice should not be based on geography or party lines,” he concluded.
