Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Khera on Saturday sharply countered Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks that Rahul Gandhi’s stand on the Special Summary Revision (SIR) led to the Congress’s electoral decline. Responding to Rijiju’s claim that “the majority of Congress leaders” held Rahul Gandhi responsible, Khera said the BJP should first examine internal views about its own leadership.

“Kiren Rijiju knows very well what the majority of the BJP leaders think about PM Modi and what the majority of the leaders say about how ‘vote theft’ is done,” Khera said, suggesting that the ruling party had far more to answer for regarding electoral conduct.

The remarks come amid continued political sparring between the BJP and Congress over changes in voter lists and allegations surrounding the SIR process. Congress leaders have repeatedly accused the Election Commission of allowing large-scale irregularities, a charge the BJP has dismissed as baseless.

On a separate issue, Khera was asked about a video circulating online allegedly involving the prime accused in the recent Delhi terror blast. He refrained from issuing any political comment, stressing the need for institutional processes to proceed without interference.

“Let us wait for the investigation to get over. As a responsible political party, I don't think we need to make any comment on this when an active investigation is underway,” he said.
