New Delhi: Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma has claimed credit for preventing waterlogging at the notorious Minto Bridge during recent rainfall, while sharply criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for failing to address drainage issues in several parts of the city over the past decade.
Speaking at a press briefing, Verma stated, “You must have seen that Minto Bridge did not get waterlogged when it rained recently. We have been working on our short-term goals, which could be fulfilled in a month’s time, one of which was the Minto Bridge.”
He took aim at Delhi Minister Atishi, accusing her of selectively showcasing photos of waterlogged streets while omitting areas where progress had been made. “Atishi showed a lot of photos after it rained, but that did not include a photo of the Minto Bridge,” he said, emphasizing that improvements were being made in high-priority zones.
Verma further alleged that AAP leaders often highlight waterlogging in areas such as Mundka, without acknowledging that no drains were constructed in those localities over the past 10 years of AAP rule. “We are constructing drains in areas with roads, but not a single drain existed earlier,” he said.
The comments come amid renewed political sparring between the BJP and AAP as Delhi braces for the monsoon season. While BJP leaders stress quick-fix infrastructure achievements, AAP has maintained that broader, long-term drainage and urban planning require sustained investment and time.
