New Delhi: Independent Member of Parliament from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, raised sharp concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being undertaken in Bihar. Speaking at a press interaction in Delhi, Yadav questioned the intent and constitutional validity of the revision process, which involves updating and verifying the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
“When something happens beyond the Constitution, then Parliament has the right to amend it, discuss it, and interfere in it,” Yadav stated. He alleged that the Election Commission was operating in an unrestrained manner and echoed the ruling party’s position. “If the Election Commission becomes unbridled, then the Supreme Court will also intervene,” he added.
According to Yadav, the SIR process is being misused as a political tool. “When they realised they were not going to win the elections, they took SIR as an excuse,” he claimed, accusing the Election Commission of “speaking BJP's language.”
He further warned of potential collective action by lawmakers if the situation remains unaddressed. “If no action is taken, we should all resign from the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha and let the government run the house on its own,” he said.
