Hyderabad — All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over recent changes in National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks, alleging that the revisions unfairly blame Muslims for India’s Partition and leave out key historical facts.

Speaking at a public meeting late on Saturday night, Owaisi said, “BJP made changes in NCERT and Muslims are being blamed for the partition. We are not responsible. It was Savarkar who first spoke of ‘two communities’ and gave slogans for partition. It was Mountbatten and the then Congress government who were responsible for the partition.”

He further accused the government of selectively removing references to sensitive historical events. “Now, you have omitted from the NCERT the reason why Godse killed Gandhi,” Owaisi remarked, suggesting that such omissions distort the understanding of India’s history.

The AIMIM leader’s comments add to the ongoing debate around educational reforms and historical narratives in India. Critics argue that recent textbook revisions risk oversimplifying complex historical events, while the government maintains that the updates are intended to streamline content and reduce academic burden on students.
