Patna, July 22: In the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Bihar, election authorities have reported that over 52.30 lakh electors were not found at their registered addresses during the house-to-house verification process. The data was recorded up to July 21, 2025.
According to officials overseeing the revision process, the figures reveal multiple reasons for electors' unavailability. Approximately 18.5 lakh voters were reported as deceased, while around 26 lakh had permanently shifted from their listed addresses. In addition, nearly 7.5 lakh electors were found to be enrolled at multiple locations across different constituencies, and close to 11,000 individuals could not be traced at all.
The Special Intensive Revision is a part of the Election Commission of India's effort to update and cleanse the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections. The exercise includes house-to-house verification to identify inaccuracies such as duplicate entries, deceased voters, and change of residence cases.
