Goa: Oscar-winning cinematographer John Seale addressed the ongoing debate surrounding the nature of cinematography during a masterclass at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Seale, renowned for his work on films like The English Patient and Mad Max: Fury Road, posed a thought-provoking question about the craft. "I hear under the grapevine that a lot of times the cinematographers are called illusionists, that you create the images. But is it photography? That is the big question to be answered in each individual's mind as to whether or not it still is photography," Seale remarked.

His comments resonated with many in the industry, prompting reflection on the evolving role of cinematographers. With advancements in technology, Seale questioned whether traditional notions of photography still apply in the world of modern cinematography.

The masterclass provided a platform for Seale to share his extensive experience and delve deeper into the intersection of art, technology, and storytelling in filmmaking.
