Delhi: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Thursday accused the Opposition of eroding parliamentary decorum during the Winter Session 2025, claiming the session would be remembered more for “drama” than for legislative contributions. Addressing a press conference, he said the Opposition repeatedly attempted to disrupt proceedings and diminish the sanctity of Parliament.
“The Winter Session 2025 may be remembered not for constructive work, but for repeated attempts by opposition members to create drama and undermine parliamentary dignity,” Poonawalla said. He pointed to a series of incidents that, according to him, set an “unfortunate new low.”
He highlighted an episode in which an opposition MP allegedly brought a dog into Parliament, an action he described as both unprecedented and disrespectful. The MP, he said, went on to make remarks implying that parliamentary staff and members “bite,” prompting objections from the Treasury benches.
Poonawalla added that when the MP was informed a privilege motion could be moved against her for the remarks, she responded mockingly with a “bhau-bhau,” further aggravating the situation. “This kind of behaviour damages the dignity of the institution and reflects a complete disregard for parliamentary norms,” he said.
