New Delhi: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman lauded India’s role in the global artificial intelligence landscape, calling the country an essential part of the AI revolution. Speaking at an OpenAI event alongside Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, Altman highlighted India’s impressive strides in embracing and building upon cutting-edge technology.
“India is an incredibly important market for AI in general, for OpenAI in particular; it's our second biggest market,” Altman revealed, underscoring the growing synergy between India and the world of artificial intelligence. He emphasized that India’s contributions are pivotal, stating, “India should be one of the leaders of the AI revolution. It's really quite amazing what the country has done and embraced the technology in building, the entire stack of things on top of it.”
Altman’s remarks come at a time when India is ramping up efforts to position itself as a global tech hub. The IndiaAI Mission, spearheaded by the government, aims to democratize technology, making it accessible to startups, researchers, and innovators across the country. Minister Vaishnaw echoed this sentiment at the event, noting that India is working across all levels of AI development—from chip design to foundational AI models and application layers—with OpenAI playing a significant role in these collaborations.
