New Delhi: BJP MP Dinesh Sharma on Tuesday strongly defended the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill, emphasizing its potential to drive economic growth and streamline governance. Addressing the ongoing discussions in Parliament, Sharma criticized opposition parties for their stance, accusing them of lacking a constructive vision for the country.
“The negative role of the opposition has come to the fore in the Parliament,” he said. Sharma argued that simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state Assemblies would significantly benefit the country’s economy. "One nation, one election increases the GDP of the country," he asserted.
Highlighting the drawbacks of frequent elections, Sharma noted the strain on public finances and the disruption of developmental activities. "Frequent elections put a huge burden on the government treasury and hamper the development process," he said, adding that the proposal aligns with the need for efficient governance.
In a sharp critique of the opposition’s priorities, Sharma remarked, “Those who see only the pain of Palestine, not the pain of Hindus of Bangladesh, have nothing to do with positive thinking for the country.”
