Gulmarg, June 24 — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for the immediate implementation and continuity of the proposed ceasefire between Iran and Israel, as the region reels from 11 days of escalating conflict and destruction.

Speaking to the media in Gulmarg, Abdullah said, “The quicker the ceasefire is done, the better it is. There has been massive destruction in these 11 days. We want the ceasefire not only to come into effect quickly but also to hold in the long term.”

The Chief Minister highlighted his government's major concern over the safety of Indian students, many of whom were stranded due to airspace closures and disrupted flight operations. “One of our top worries was the students. Flights faced problems because the airspace was shut. But we’re hopeful that a large batch of students will return today, which might complete the evacuation process,” he stated.
