Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday strongly condemned the Delhi terror blast, saying that no religion can justify the killing of innocents and urging restraint from stereotyping the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is highly condemnable. No religion can justify the killing of innocents with such brutality,” Abdullah said while addressing reporters in Jammu. He emphasized that only a few individuals were responsible for disrupting peace and brotherhood in the region.

“Investigation will continue, but we must remember one thing — not every resident of Jammu and Kashmir is a terrorist or associated with terrorists. These are only a few people who have always ruined peace and brotherhood here,” he said. Abdullah cautioned that viewing all residents of J&K or every Kashmiri Muslim through a single lens would alienate innocent citizens. “Those who are responsible for this incident should be severely punished, but we must keep the innocents out of this,” he added.

Referring to earlier instances of radicalisation among educated individuals, Abdullah said, “Have we not seen the professors of universities before this? Who says that educated people don’t get involved in such things? They do.”

He questioned the lack of follow-up action against dismissed university employees allegedly involved in extremist activities. “Though they were expelled from their jobs, what kind of investigation was undertaken after that? Why was prosecution not carried out?” he asked.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to cooperation, Abdullah said, “We can only help the central government to keep the situation normal, and we are doing that.”
