Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review preparations for the 5th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), scheduled to take place from February 22 to 25, 2025, at the world-renowned ski resort of Gulmarg. The meeting focused on ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the event, which is expected to attract participants and spectators from across the country.
CM Abdullah emphasized the importance of the Khelo India Winter Games in showcasing Jammu & Kashmir as a premier destination for winter sports, not only within India but also internationally. "The Khelo India Winter Games provide an excellent platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills and contribute to the growth of winter sports in the region. We are committed to providing world-class facilities and ensuring that this event is a grand success," Abdullah stated.
The meeting covered various aspects of the event, including infrastructure development, security arrangements, athlete accommodations, and the logistics of hosting large numbers of participants and spectators. The officials also discussed the promotion of local tourism and the economic benefits the event will bring to the region.
With Gulmarg already known for its breathtaking landscapes and exceptional skiing conditions, the 5th Khelo India Winter Games are expected to further cement the region's reputation as a hub for winter sports. The event will feature a variety of disciplines, including skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, and other winter sports, offering a platform for young athletes to compete and hone their skills.
