Bhubaneswar: Poonam Guha, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Odisha’s Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Department, welcomed the delegates at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, held in Bhubaneswar, and spoke on the significance of promoting India's rich textile heritage.

“A very warm welcome to all Pravasi Indians and delegates at this 18th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar. It is crucial for us to not only nurture our textiles and handicrafts but also ensure adequate marketing for them,” Guha remarked during her address.

Guha highlighted the role of textiles and handicrafts in India’s cultural identity and economy, stressing that it is essential to create global awareness about the diverse, handcrafted products made across the country. She pointed out that while the rich heritage of textiles is well-preserved, their wider recognition and marketing are key to enhancing their global reach.

The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, celebrating the contributions of the Indian diaspora, provides an important platform for showcasing such cultural treasures. Guha’s emphasis on the marketing of textiles aligns with the growing global interest in sustainable and handmade products, with many countries now prioritizing traditional craftsmanship.
