Odisha Witnesses Diarrhoea Outbreak: Over 200 Affected, 3 Deaths Reported

By A Staff Reporter

Bhubaneswar, Odisha, June 13 — A sudden outbreak of diarrhoea in Odisha has alarmed health authorities, with over 200 people reportedly affected in the past three days. The state’s Director of Public Health, Dr Nilakantha Mishra, confirmed the figures and outlined the emergency response measures being undertaken by the government.

“Suddenly, there has been a surge of diarrhoea cases in the last 3 days,” Dr Mishra said. “We have taken steps to prevent further occurrences and also treat the patients who have been affected.”

Field health workers have been deployed door-to-door to identify infected individuals, provide preventive medication, and spread awareness. The health department is also investigating the source of the infection, with early suspicion pointing to contaminated drinking water.

“We have told people to use safe drinking water,” Dr Mishra added. “The number of affected cases is more than 200. The final report has not come till now, but as a preliminary report, 3 people have died, of which two probably died due to diarrhoea.”

Dr Mishra also stated that the number of new cases is now declining, and authorities are hopeful that the outbreak will be brought under control soon.
