Bhubaneswar: A flight carrying Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was diverted to Kolkata on Friday morning after it was unable to land in Bhubaneswar due to adverse weather conditions, a state minister confirmed.
The Chief Minister was returning from a five-day visit to Delhi and was scheduled to land at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar around 9:45 a.m. However, heavy cloud cover and reduced visibility in the region forced the aircraft to alter its course.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister said that all passengers, including Majhi, were safe. The aircraft landed in Kolkata without incident, where necessary arrangements were made for the Chief Minister’s onward travel.
Weather officials had earlier cautioned about low visibility and scattered rain in and around Bhubaneswar, which may have affected flight operations. Several other flights were also reported to have faced delays during the morning hours.
