Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday inaugurated a two-day conference in Bhubaneswar focused on the welfare and empowerment of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.

The conference, attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with parliamentarians and legislators from various states, provided a platform to deliberate on measures aimed at enhancing the role of SC and ST categories in social, economic, and political fields.

“Today, a two-day conference was organised in Bhubaneswar for the welfare of the Scheduled Caste and the Scheduled Tribe categories. The Lok Sabha Speaker also participated in it. Parliamentarians and legislators from various states also took part. Important discussions were held today regarding increasing the participation of SC and ST categories in social, economic, and political fields,” Majhi said.

He added that detailed plans are being prepared to address long-standing challenges faced by these communities, including access to education, livelihood opportunities, and representation in governance.

Officials said the event also featured sessions on policy interventions, grassroots development models, and strategies to ensure inclusive growth. Participants stressed the need for coordinated efforts between central and state governments to achieve tangible improvements in the lives of SC and ST citizens.
