Imphal/New Delhi: The National People's Party (NPP), led by Conrad K Sangma, has officially withdrawn its support from the BJP-led Manipur Government, citing the government's failure to restore peace and normalcy in the state. The announcement was made by NPP MLA and National Secretary (Political Affairs) Sheikh Noorul Hassan during a press conference in Delhi.
Sheikh Noorul Hassan stated, "In the letter issued by our national president, it has been clearly mentioned that the Manipur Government under CM N Biren Singh has failed to address the ongoing violence and bring peace and normalcy to the state. The situation has been deteriorating for the last 18 months, eroding public confidence in the administration."
The NPP accused the Manipur Government of lacking a concrete roadmap to address the prevailing law and order issues. Hassan added, "There is no law and order, no roadmap, and no sense of normalcy in the state. This has put the NPP under public scrutiny as a party that supported the BJP-led Government without conditions."
The NPP emphasized that the decision to withdraw support was made in response to the public's growing frustration and demands. "We are part of the NDA, but in Manipur, we have decided to stand with the general public. This withdrawal is not on our own will but on the wishes of the people," Hassan clarified.
The withdrawal marks a significant political shift in Manipur, where the BJP-led coalition has been grappling with criticism over its handling of the prolonged unrest. With the NPP’s exit, the state's political dynamics may undergo further upheaval as parties realign themselves in the wake of this decision.
