Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday dismissed Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s criticism over the proposed renaming of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), saying the Congress habitually speaks against initiatives even when they benefit the public.

Reacting to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s statement on renaming the scheme to “Pujya Bapu Grameen Rozgar”, Fadnavis said there was no need to give importance to such remarks. “Whether you do MNREGA work or not, they say things. Even when the public is benefited, they speak against it,” he said.

The Chief Minister asserted that the Narendra Modi-led government has ushered in positive changes in governance, particularly in the rural sector. He said initiatives undertaken by the Centre are focused on strengthening rural development and expanding employment opportunities for people in villages.
