Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Shukla acknowledged the absence of veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the squad but viewed the development as a necessary and strategic step. “The selectors have sent a new team to England. I am hopeful that we will do well under Shubman Gill's leadership, and will win the England series,” said Shukla.
He further stated, “There is no doubt that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be missed, and even Shubman Gill has admitted it, but it was a good chance for the selectors to try for an experiment and it will surely be successful.”
