Patna, Bihar: Maithili Thakur, the renowned folk singer who has made her electoral debut as the BJP’s MLA from the Alinagar constituency, said on Sunday that her victory marks the beginning of a demanding new phase of work. Speaking to the media in Patna, Thakur expressed gratitude for the support she received and stressed that meeting public expectations will now be her foremost responsibility.

“It feels nice. My work starts now,” she said, reflecting on her transition from the cultural sphere to public office. “We fought the election and now it's time to get to work. We are deciding on how to go about our work. We have to stand up to people's expectations and work on delivering all the promises we have made.”

Thakur, who won on a strong mandate, noted that her constituency faces significant developmental challenges. “I have to work a lot in my constituency. There are a lot of challenges too,” she said, adding that her immediate focus would be to address local issues and engage closely with residents to identify priorities.

She also acknowledged that, as a first-time legislator, she has much to learn about governance and political processes. “I have become part of the organisation and I will learn a lot about politics along the way,” Thakur said.
