Delhi: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday continued rescue and relief operations in Yamuna Bazar, one of the worst-affected areas in the capital, as floodwaters from the overflowing Yamuna River kept large parts submerged.
Abujam Bijoy Kumar Singh, Commandant of the NDRF’s 16th Battalion, said the situation showed signs of improvement. “The water levels have stabilised. According to forecasts, by 8 p.m., water levels are expected to recede, and the danger that has persisted since yesterday will reduce,” he stated.
At 9 a.m., the Yamuna’s water level at the Old Railway Bridge was recorded at 207.47 metres, well above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. Areas around Monastery Market and Yamuna Bazar remained under several feet of water, forcing residents to rely on rescue teams and relief camps for essential supplies.
