Delhi: In an ongoing effort to tackle air pollution, Kuljeet Singh Chahal, the Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), outlined the measures being taken to reduce dust and pollution levels across the city.
Speaking to the media, Chahal explained, “We are conducting mechanized sweeping across Delhi roads to remove dust, which will help in reducing pollution levels significantly. Along with this, we are deploying anti-smog machines and sprinklers to further reduce the pollution in the air.”
The NDMC has also been proactive in ensuring that construction activities, often a major contributor to dust pollution, are closely monitored. “The people of NDMC are visiting construction sites to stop the work if necessary to prevent excessive dust generation. We are committed to doing our part in tackling the pollution,” he added.
However, Chahal criticized the lack of visible efforts from other authorities, stating, “You will see the people of NDMC on the streets working to manage pollution, but nowhere will you find the people of Delhi Government or the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) working towards the cause.”
His comments reflect a growing frustration over the gap in coordinated efforts to address Delhi’s severe air pollution problem. The NDMC, which covers key areas of the national capital, has been actively trying to curb pollution in its jurisdiction, yet it appears that cooperation between the different governing bodies remains a challenge.
As Delhi battles one of its worst pollution crises, the question remains whether these localized efforts will be enough or if a unified approach is required to tackle the problem effectively.
