New Delhi | The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) proposed scheme to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 2100 for women has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition. Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), has questioned the feasibility of the scheme and accused AAP of repeating a pattern of unfulfilled promises.

“They made such announcements in Punjab as well, but they did not fulfill them,” Chahal alleged during a press interaction. He further criticized AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating, “Kejriwal will have to answer and account for the corruption his government has committed.”

Chahal’s remarks come as the AAP is gearing up for upcoming elections and promoting the welfare scheme as a step towards empowering women and supporting households in financial distress. However, critics argue that the scheme lacks a concrete implementation plan and risks becoming another hollow promise.

This is not the first time AAP’s policy initiatives have faced skepticism. In Punjab, where the party also governs, opposition leaders have frequently targeted the AAP administration for what they describe as a failure to deliver on pre-election pledges. Chahal’s comments reflect a similar narrative, accusing AAP of prioritizing populist measures over sustainable governance
