Jodhpur, Rajasthan: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, during an official visit to Jodhpur, held a meeting with district collectors and senior police officers to review the implementation of women's safety laws, with a particular focus on workplace harassment and domestic violence.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rahatkar said, “Yesterday, we held a meeting with collectors and IPS officers, during which we discussed various issues, particularly the law on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace. We asked for the appointment of a Nodal Officer under this law.” She emphasized the need to strengthen institutional mechanisms such as internal committees, which play a critical role in addressing complaints, especially from women working in the unorganised sector.

Rahatkar also urged officials to ensure that committees formed under the chairmanship of district collectors are adequately empowered and sensitized to handle cases fairly and efficiently. She further called for the appointment of a Protection Officer under the Domestic Violence Act in districts where such posts are vacant or inactive.

“The focus must be on doing the work productively,” she added, highlighting the NCW’s intention to ensure that legal protections for women are not only in place but also meaningfully enforced.
