Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, on Saturday called on the Centre to ensure adequate fertiliser supply to the state, citing concerns among farmers during the ongoing kharif season.

Patnaik’s appeal comes amid rising discontent among cultivators over alleged shortages of urea and other essential fertilisers in several parts of the state. Farmers have reportedly voiced apprehensions that insufficient supply could disrupt crop cycles and adversely affect yields.

In his statement, Patnaik urged the Union government to intervene immediately and guarantee the allocation of sufficient stock. He emphasized that timely access to fertilisers was critical for sustaining agricultural productivity and safeguarding farmers’ interests during the kharif period.

“The Centre must ensure that the required quantities are supplied without delay so that farmers are not left in distress,” Patnaik said.
