The construction of four lane national highway has hit a roadblock in West Bengal. According to highly placed sources in know of development at the NHAI headquarters in New Delhi, a 17.5 kilometre stretch between Barasat and Barajaguli stretch is currently in dispute of land acquisition. Construction work is stuck. NHAI officials informed that several round of meetings between local TMC MP and MLA, state PWD secretary Antara Acharya and North 24 Parganas district magistrate Sharad Dwivedi have taken place but has not yielded any result so far.

The 17.5 Kilometre stretch is a part of the Kolkata-Siliguri four lane expressway which has been under construction for a long time. There is another logjam at a 3 kilometre stretch in Nadia which is yet to be resolved. NHAI has also serious reservations about illegal hawkers encroaching on the highway at Kaliachak in Malda. ANM News have learnt that local police have been informed but there has been no effective response.

ANM News contacted state government departments and have learnt that senior officials are making efforts to convince locals in the Barasat to Bara Jaguli stretch. The state government officials are hopeful of an early solution. Officials mentioned that efforts are on at both political and administrative level to solve the issue.
