Delhi: Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday sharply criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his comments against the SIR (Status Identification and Reverification) procedure. Speaking to reporters in the capital, Naqvi said that attempts to create “fear and confusion” over a constitutional process were not in the national interest.

“Criminal reaction over constitutional process is not in favour of the country. People are trying to spread fear and confusion over SIR,” Naqvi said, accusing the Congress leader of misleading the public on the issue.

Taking a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Naqvi added, “So far, we have heard about BCom, BA degrees but Rahul Gandhi has got Bachelor of Defeat degree.” His remark drew strong reactions across political circles, adding another flashpoint to the ongoing war of words between the BJP and Congress over SIR.

The debate around the voter verification and documentation process has intensified in recent days, with leaders from multiple parties voicing sharply divergent views. Naqvi reiterated that the SIR exercise was being conducted within constitutional norms and urged political leaders to refrain from “irresponsible commentary” that could unsettle citizens.
