Delhi: BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday criticised Congress MP Manickam Tagore over his remarks on the Special Summary Revision (SIR), asserting that the Election Commission (EC) is fully empowered and obligated to maintain the integrity of the voter list. Speaking to reporters, Naqvi said the Commission’s responsibilities include safeguarding legitimate voters and reviewing illegal entries as part of its constitutional mandate.

“It is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure that the voters' list is purified, legal voters are protected, illegal voters are reviewed, and a decision is made,” Naqvi stated, pushing back against Tagore’s concerns.

He accused the Congress of attempting to generate unnecessary panic and misinformation around the revision process. “The imaginary confusion you have attempted to create regarding this is similar to what you did during the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act),” Naqvi said, referring to the political controversy surrounding the legislation.
