Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday addressed the state Assembly regarding the recent violence in Nagpur, calling it a "well-planned attack." He said that protests by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal were sparked by rumors, which escalated tensions in the city.

"In Nagpur, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal held protests. Rumors were spread that things containing religious content were burnt… It looks like a well-planned attack. No one has permission to take law and order into their hands," Fadnavis stated.

The violence in Nagpur erupted after reports circulated about alleged disrespect to religious symbols, triggering protests. The situation escalated into clashes, prompting heavy police deployment. Authorities have since imposed restrictions in sensitive areas to maintain order.

CM Fadnavis emphasized that misinformation played a key role in fueling the unrest and assured strict action against those responsible. His statement also served as a warning that the government would not tolerate mob justice or vigilantism.
