President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said she was filled with nostalgia as she addressed the Odisha Assembly — the institution from which her political journey formally began. Returning to the House in her capacity as the President of India, she said it was here that she found her footing in public life, gained invaluable experience and built the foundation of a career that would eventually take her to the highest constitutional office in the country.

Murmu reflected on her early days as a legislator, crediting the Assembly with shaping her values and understanding of public service. She noted that the House was not merely a place of debate, but a space that moulded her approach to governance, responsibility and democratic dialogue.

Addressing the members, the President urged them to uphold dignity and discipline in the Assembly, emphasising that lawmakers' conduct has a direct impact on public perception. She said that people look to their representatives for guidance, and therefore, it is essential for MLAs to exhibit integrity, restraint and constructive engagement in legislative proceedings.
