New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday strongly criticised Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for alleging vote rigging in the recently held Haryana elections, calling his remarks an attempt to malign India’s democratic framework.

“This is a systematic conspiracy to defame our constitutional democracy through criminal anarchy,” Naqvi said while addressing the media in Delhi. He accused Gandhi and other opposition leaders of “creating an atmosphere of distrust” toward key democratic institutions, including the Election Commission.

“The people who are doing this have been creating an atmosphere of distrust on the Election Commission, the electoral system, the government, and the Constitution for the past 11 years,” Naqvi remarked.

He further said that such statements were undermining the credibility of India’s electoral process and discouraging voter participation. “The Election Commissioner has to defend himself like a political party… You are discouraging the voters from voting,” Naqvi added.
