BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday credited the transformative Ladli Laxmi scheme for significantly improving the welfare and empowerment of girls in the state. Speaking at a public event, Yadav acknowledged former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for launching the flagship initiative in 2007, which has since evolved into Ladli Laxmi 1 and 2, focusing on girl child education and financial support.

“The Ladli Laxmi scheme was started during the tenure of former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Through this, not only did we end the gap in the sex ratio, but we also created a framework for empowering girls through education and financial aid,” Yadav stated.

Highlighting the impact of the programme, he added, “Since its inception, 50.45 lakh girls have registered under the scheme, and 12.85 lakh have received scholarships worth ₹648.85 crore.”

The Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women, especially in education and politics. “We are providing scholarships to school-going girls under Ladli Laxmi 2. In the upcoming times, we will also provide 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha,” he announced.
