Delhi: Indian weightlifting star Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on Saturday said her training regimen is progressing steadily as she prepares for a packed competitive calendar in 2025. Speaking about her immediate goals, the former world champion and Olympic medallist confirmed that she is in full preparation mode for the national championship scheduled for January.

“My training is progressing smoothly, and I'm gearing up for the national championship in January,” Chanu said. She added that India will host the Asian Championship in April, making it a significant event for the national team. “After that, we'll be hosting the Asian Championship in April, so I'm focusing my efforts on both events. The entire Indian weightlifting team is doing their best on our home soil.”

Chanu emphasised that while the upcoming championships are crucial stepping stones, her long-term targets remain the major multi-sport events. “My focus is on the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games,” she noted, indicating that her training strategy is aligned with broader performance goals leading into the next international cycle.
