New Delhi: Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma on Friday dismissed media reports suggesting that the Yamuna river floods had submerged large parts of the city, asserting that the situation was more localised than portrayed.
Speaking from the Ring Road area, Verma pointed out that while the Yamuna flows on one side and Civil Lines lies on the other, there was no flooding in Civil Lines. “There has been a narrative in the media that the Yamuna has flooded the entire city. We are at the Ring Road—on the right is the Yamuna, and on the left is Civil Lines. There is not a drop of water in Civil Lines,” he said.
The minister acknowledged that some waterlogging had occurred due to rainfall but clarified that measures were underway to pump the water out. “Only a portion of the road is waterlogged, and we are draining it,” he explained.
Verma also mentioned his plans to visit Nigam Bodh Ghat to further illustrate that floodwaters had not engulfed Delhi as a whole. He emphasised the importance of presenting a “clear picture” rather than spreading what he described as an exaggerated narrative of widespread inundation.
