Delhi: Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora criticised the opposition for questioning the integrity of voter lists, arguing that such allegations lacked substance and were aimed at diverting public attention.

Deora said the opposition had earlier raised doubts over electronic voting machines (EVMs) and had now shifted focus to the voter rolls. He noted that a petition seeking the cancellation of the Maharashtra elections on these grounds was dismissed by the Bombay High Court. The decision, he added, was later upheld by the Supreme Court after an appeal.

According to Deora, the judicial rejections demonstrated that the claims being made by opposition parties were unfounded. He alleged that the narrative around voter list discrepancies was being used to mislead the public and mask governance shortcomings.

The remarks come amid a wider national debate over the accuracy of electoral rolls and the opposition’s demand for stronger oversight of the Election Commission’s procedures. While courts have consistently upheld the validity of the recent elections, opposition parties continue to voice concerns about transparency and accountability in the voting process.
