On the opening day of the Parliament’s Winter Session, heated exchanges led to an Opposition walkout from the Rajya Sabha over the Special Input Refund (SIR) issue, prompting sharp reaction from Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora. Speaking on the disruption, Deora described the protest as “unfortunate,” stating that the issue continues to be raised despite not finding electoral support in Bihar.
He said the Opposition’s stance appears to be aimed at stalling proceedings rather than contributing to legislative debate. “It’s unfortunate that SIR is still being used as an issue despite Bihar electorate rejecting it in elections. It’s being used as a bogey to disrupt Parliament this session,” he remarked, reflecting concern over potential legislative delays.
The Winter Session, which commenced today, is scheduled to run for three weeks with around 14 sittings expected. Deora expressed hope that the walkout would not set the tone for the entire session and that parliamentary work would move forward more constructively in the coming days. “I can’t say what will happen tomorrow, but I hope things get better,” he said, emphasising the need for cooperation and productivity in the House.
