Mehbooba Mufti
By A Staff Reporter
Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday joined her party’s protest against the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), demanding the release of prisoners from the Union Territory lodged in jails across the country.
Addressing party workers during the demonstration, Mufti alleged that while concessions are being extended to convicts in other parts of India, people from Jammu and Kashmir continue to face harsh treatment. “They have given many remissions for criminals, rapists, and goons, and paroles are granted to them, but you have not permitted this for the people of J&K. The poor people of J&K are suffering in jails across the country,” she said.
The PDP chief called for collective political action to address the issue, suggesting that leaders from across parties should approach the central government. “If possible, an all-party delegation must go and meet the Home Minister, but we must find some solution to this,” Mufti added.
