New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has expressed strong support for the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, emphasizing its potential benefits in terms of streamlined electioneering, governance, and finances. His remarks came in response to the bills introduced in the Lok Sabha today.

Sangma acknowledged that the concept of simultaneous elections would reduce the electoral burden, improve governance efficiency, and provide financial savings by consolidating election cycles. He emphasized that the proposal makes "complete sense" in these contexts and is in the national interest.

However, the CM called for more clarity regarding the practical implementation of the policy, noting that it would require thorough discussion and careful consideration. He mentioned that while the vision is appealing, the specifics of execution are critical, and more dialogue is necessary to address potential challenges.

“We are here to support 'One Nation, One Election' because it makes complete sense in terms of electioneering, governance, and finances. However, we seek more clarity on the practical implementation, which we are eager to discuss further,” Sangma said.

The proposal has sparked widespread debate across the political spectrum, with proponents highlighting its long-term benefits and critics expressing concerns about federalism and the impact on smaller parties. Sangma's comments reflect the need for a balanced approach as the bill progresses.
