Delhi | The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that several Indian nationals have been recruited to serve in the Russian army and urged citizens to avoid falling for such offers, warning that they pose grave risks to life and safety.

Addressing the media, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “In the last few months, we have come to know and have been informed of several Indian nationals who have been recruited in the Russian army. We have once again taken up the matter with the Russian authorities to have them released at the earliest, as also to put an end to this practice.”

Jaiswal revealed that, according to the ministry’s understanding, 44 Indian nationals are currently serving in the Russian army. “We are in touch with the Russian side as well as the families of these individuals and are keeping them updated on the matter,” he said.

The spokesperson reiterated the government’s advisory, cautioning citizens against accepting any offers to join the Russian armed forces. “Such offers are fraught with danger and carry serious risks to life,” he emphasized, urging Indians to exercise utmost caution and stay away from fraudulent recruitment schemes.
