New Delhi: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari criticized Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi after he was stopped at the Ghazipur border while attempting to visit Sambhal, a region recently struck by communal violence. Tiwari accused Gandhi of interfering in a sensitive situation and disregarding the sanctity of an ongoing court investigation.
"Rahul Gandhi is now the Leader of the Opposition, yet he doesn't seem to understand why he shouldn't intervene in an ongoing court investigation," Tiwari said. "Why does he want to go there and add fuel to the fire? I believe that when an investigation is underway, it should not be disrupted. The INDI alliance leaders must understand that the truth will only come out through proper investigation," he added.
Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders had planned to meet the victims of the Sambhal violence, alleging government negligence and suppression of their right to interact with affected communities. However, authorities stopped them, citing potential risks to law and order in the area.
The BJP leader’s remarks underline a growing divide between the ruling party and the opposition over sensitive issues like Sambhal. Tiwari emphasized the need to let law enforcement and the judiciary handle such matters without political interference, accusing Gandhi of trying to score political points at the cost of peace in the region.
The incident has sparked yet another round of accusations and counter-accusations between the BJP and the opposition INDI alliance, with the Sambhal violence continuing to dominate political discourse. Meanwhile, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
