Manish Tewari

New Delhi — Congress MP Manish Tewari has raised strong objections to the Election Commission of India's (ECI) handling of electoral rolls, alleging that the Commission is acting in violation of established conventions and legal precedents.
Speaking to the press in Delhi, Tewari remarked, “The Election Commission is fundamentally going against every convention, precedent, and tradition in this regard. The electoral rolls, which are in existence, have been made after verification of the concerned people who are a part of that electoral roll.”
He added that if any objections arise regarding the current voter list, the appropriate course of action is to initiate a review. “You cannot do what you are doing now,” Tewari stated, without elaborating on specific actions being taken by the Commission.
While the Congress leader did not detail the precise issue at hand, opposition parties have in recent months raised concerns over alleged arbitrary deletions, additions, or redrawing of voter lists in certain states ahead of elections.
