Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has thanked the Assam Rifles and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for addressing a long-pending demand of the people of Manipur and the student body of Manipur University. The Assam Rifles recently vacated buildings located within the university campus, a move welcomed by the Chief Minister and local stakeholders.

“I would like to appreciate and thank the Assam Rifles authority. I also thank Union Home Minister Amit Shah as it was a long-due demand of the people of Manipur and the university student body. This area falls under the campus of the Manipur University. I am grateful to the Assam Rifles authority for vacating the existing buildings,” CM Biren Singh said.

The presence of the Assam Rifles within the university premises had been a contentious issue for years, with students and local communities advocating for the removal of military infrastructure from educational spaces. The Chief Minister acknowledged the significance of this development, stating that it would pave the way for improved academic and administrative activities within the university.

The decision to vacate the premises reflects a broader effort to address civilian concerns while maintaining harmony between security forces and the local population. CM Singh emphasized his government’s commitment to ensuring that the rights and aspirations of the people of Manipur are respected.

This move has garnered positive reactions from students and faculty members, who view it as a step toward fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth. Further developments regarding the utilization of the vacated space are awaited.
