KOLKATA — West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led central government, questioning the credibility of its claims about alleged irregularities in the voter lists and accusing it of repeatedly deceiving the public.

Speaking at a public event in Kolkata, Banerjee said, “You won for the last 24 years with which voter list? BJP government, if this list is false, then your government is also a lie, your position is also a lie."

The Trinamool Congress chief accused the Centre of using new controversies to divert public attention. “Every year they have to do something or the other. Once he came and did demonetization... I was the first one to oppose this. Tell us today, did you bring back black money? Where did the black money come back?” she asked.

Banerjee reiterated that the BJP’s policies have caused immense hardship to ordinary citizens, citing demonetization and alleged misuse of central agencies as examples of “politics of intimidation.”
