Gangasagar, January 4 — West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed discontent over the central government’s alleged neglect of Gangasagar, a significant pilgrimage destination in the state. Speaking from South 24 Parganas, Banerjee contrasted the lack of funding for Gangasagar with the substantial financial support provided to the Kumbh Mela.

"The central government supports Kumbh Mela by giving thousands of crores of Rupees, but they do not even look at Gangasagar," Banerjee stated. She highlighted Gangasagar’s unique geographical and cultural significance, emphasizing its location amid the Sundarbans, forests, the sea, and its temples, which attract scores of devotees annually. "It is very amazing," she remarked, underscoring the area's spiritual importance.
