Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule
By A Staff Reporter
Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday said that reservation policies should not come at the cost of one community while benefiting another, calling such an approach unjustified.
Speaking to reporters, Bawankule argued that governments must adopt inclusive solutions rather than shifting quotas between groups. He alleged that only the administrations led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had taken concrete steps to address the concerns of the Maratha community.
“It is not justified to take away reservation from one community and give it to another. Except for the governments led by Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, no other dispensation has done justice to the Maratha community,” he said.
The remarks come amid ongoing debates over reservation demands from various communities in Maharashtra, with the Maratha quota issue remaining a politically sensitive subject. The state has witnessed several protests in recent years, as communities seek inclusion in reserved categories for education and government jobs.
