Mumbai: Renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar expressed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal, hailing his contributions to Hindi cinema as transformative and irreplaceable.

Speaking to the media, Akhtar said, “He gave a new thought process to Hindi cinema, there is no doubt about that. Such people are rare, and his place will always remain vacant.”

Shyam Benegal, known for pioneering a new wave of Indian cinema, created impactful films that addressed social and cultural issues with depth and sensitivity. His notable works, including Ankur, Nishant, and Manthan, have left an indelible mark on Indian film history.
