Katra, Jammu & Kashmir, June 4, 2025 — Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Tuesday highlighted a major mineral discovery near Katra, informing Prime Minister Narendra Modi about significant lithium deposits found just a few kilometres from the pilgrimage town. Speaking during an event attended by the Prime Minister, Dr. Singh emphasized the strategic value of this finding in India's clean energy future.
“Prime Minister Modi, you will be delighted to know that recently, a large number of lithium mineral deposits have been found where we are sitting, a few kilometres away,” he said. “When that lithium comes into use, it will play a role in achieving a net-zero emissions target by 2070.”
Dr. Singh underscored the potential of the region, calling it rich in “wonders” that have yet to be explored or utilized. He credited the current government’s developmental push for bringing these untapped resources into national focus.
